SIS Cairo West Grade 4 Teacher Appreciation Day Video - Student Shoot Guide

Hello Grade 4 students! 👋

You're going to help make a special thank-you video for your teachers. This guide will show you exactly what to do, step by step. It's easy and fun - just like making a video for a friend!

What We're Making

We're creating a short video (about 1-2 minutes long) where you get to say thank you to your teachers in your own words. Some of you will speak on camera, some will make cards or drawings, and everyone helps make it special.

Think of it like making a big class thank-you card, but as a video that your teachers can watch and keep forever.

Filming will take place over two days this week, with editing completed by early next week. Your teachers will share the final video with the class once it's ready.

What You Can Film

Here are the different ways you can participate:

1. Say a Thank-You Line (Speaking Part)

  • Say one short sentence: "Thank you because you helped me ______."
  • Examples: "Thank you because you helped me understand math," or "Thank you because you make me laugh."
  • Keep it under 6 seconds when you say it out loud.

2. Make an Appreciation Card

  • Write one word that describes your teacher: Kind, Helpful, Funny, Patient, Awesome, etc.
  • Make the card big and colorful so it's easy to see on camera.
  • You can also draw a picture instead of writing a word.

3. Help Behind the Scenes

  • Hold cards for your friends
  • Help keep the filming area tidy
  • Be a timekeeper to remind friends to keep their lines short
  • Help check that backgrounds look good

Simple Filming Tips (Using Your Phone)

You don't need fancy equipment - just your phone and these easy tips:

📱 Holding Your Phone

  • Hold it sideways (landscape) for wider videos, or upright (portrait) for taller videos
  • Use two hands to keep it steady
  • Keep your elbows tucked in for stability

💡 Lighting

  • Face the light (window or lamp) so your face is bright
  • Don't stand with your back to a window - you'll look dark
  • Film in a quiet corner of the classroom or courtyard

🎯 Framing

  • For speaking: Show from your chest up (like a school photo)
  • For cards: Hold the card so it fills most of the screen
  • For drawings: Get close so we can see the details

🔇 Audio (Sound)

  • Speak clearly and not too fast
  • Find a quiet spot away from noisy areas
  • Wait for any loud noises (like bells or footsteps) to stop before you start

⏱️ Time Limits

  • Speaking clips: Maximum 6 seconds (say it twice at most)
  • Card/drawing shots: 2-3 seconds each
  • We'll pick the best take

Your Shot Checklist

Before you film, check these things:

☐ I know what I'm going to say or show ☐ I'm holding my phone steady with two hands ☐ My face is well-lit (no shadows) ☐ The background is plain (wall, curtain, bookshelf - no people walking behind) ☐ I'm not showing my name badge, ID, or private information ☐ I've practiced what I'll say once ☐ I'm ready to speak clearly and smile

What NOT to Do

  • Don't film with your back to a window or bright light (you'll appear dark)
  • Don't speak too fast or mumble - speak clearly so we can hear you
  • Don't include private information like your last name, student ID, or home address
  • Don't film while walking or moving around - stay in one spot
  • Don't use filters, effects, or AI tools that change your appearance or voice
  • Don't share your clips with classmates or post them online without permission

How to Record Your Appreciation Message

If you're doing a speaking part:

  1. Find your quiet spot with good lighting
  2. Hold your phone steady (ask a friend or teacher to help if needed)
  3. Take a deep breath and smile
  4. Say your line: "Thank you because you helped me ______."
  5. Stop recording
  6. Watch it back to make sure we can hear you clearly
  7. If needed, do it one more time (maximum two tries)

How to Make Your Card or Drawing

  1. Get a piece of paper or card
  2. Use markers, crayons, or colored pencils
  3. Make your word or picture big and colorful
  4. Make sure there are no names or personal details on it
  5. Hold it up so it fills the camera frame when filming

Safe and Simple Clip Submission

After you film:

  1. Give your phone to the teacher or adult helper
  2. They will copy the clips to a special safe folder
  3. Your original clips will be deleted from your phone if the school requires it
  4. All clips are kept in one controlled place that only teachers can access
  5. Nothing gets shared in student chats or posted online without permission

Where AI Helps (and Where We Keep It Simple)

AI is like a smart helper for the teachers, but you don't need to use it directly.

🤖 How Teachers Might Use AI (Adults Only):

  • Thinking up fun thank-you sentence starters using school-approved AI tools
  • Making sure student lines sound natural for Grade 4 with the help of school-approved AI
  • Planning the video order (what comes first, second, etc.) using school-approved planning tools
  • Finding good background music that's free to use (with school IT/admin approval)
  • Organizing the editing timeline with school-approved software

Note: Teachers should consult with school IT/admin to confirm which AI tools and accounts are approved before using any AI that processes student-generated content.

👶 Where We Keep It Simple (Your Part):

  • You speak from your heart - no AI needed for your words
  • You make real cards and drawings with your own hands
  • You film with your phone - no fancy AI camera effects
  • You be yourself - no AI changing your voice or face

Remember...

  • Your teachers will love seeing your real smiles and hearing your real voices
  • It's okay if you're nervous - just try your best
  • Every student's part is important to make the video special
  • Have fun making something nice for your teachers!

You've got this! Let's make a wonderful thank-you video together. 🌟
